Our Halloween

No costumes. No candy. No pumpkins. Our Halloween/Nevada Day was very different but it was the best one to date.

Eric and Carrie, Afton, Eliot and Simon invited us to go camping at Mount Charleston. I was not pumped about the camping thing because I knew it would be cold but we really wanted to spend time with famLeathree. The day before the trip, somebody at Eric's work offered us the use of his cabin for the weekend. Suddenly our camping trip became a lot more convenient and we extended our stay an extra night and day. How happy was I that we wouldn't be sleeping in a cold tent!

The cabin was huge! It had a baby grand piano, hot tub, movie room and a gorgeous view. The animals on the wall were said to have been shot by Teddy Roosevelt. On Saturday, it started to pour... rain like I haven't seen in a long time and it pounded against the roof while we stayed warm and dry in front of the fire. We loved roasting marshmallows and Starburst (yes, Starburst over the fire are the BEST!) with the kids. We enjoyed hanging out in the hot tub, staring out at the view and watching the rain fall. We had a blast playing cards and charades. The meals were delicious, especially the french dip sandwiches we did for lunch on Saturday. Robert and Eric did a heavy bike ride on Saturday before the rain started to fall. I had time to read and relax.

One funny memory... when Robert and I were getting ready for bed the first night, Robert pulled back the covers and lifted the pillow and he found dry dog food in our bed. We were totally perplexed! Why would there be dog food in a bed?! It took us some time to find some more bedding and later I had to shake out and wash the sheets. So strange.

Eric, Carrie and kids are excellent company. We had a wonderful time together! Thanks for the invite! Lets hope all of our Halloween/Nevada Days will be so fun in the future.

Luxury in the mountains! What a neat experience! And a special memory with family . . . The kids will never forget it. Neither will you!
